Rev. Dr. Velva Burley Flowers

Rev. Flowers was educated in the Detroit Public School System from elementary to high school. After graduating from Detroit Central High School, she matriculated to college where she received a B.A. in Business Administration from Michigan State University, and a M.S. in Health Administration from the University of Detroit Mercy. In May 2003, she received a Master of Divinity degree (MDiv) from Ashland Theological Seminary and in June 2006, she received a Doctor of Ministry degree (D.Min) in Black Church Studies from Ashland Seminary in Cleveland, Ohio. Rev. Flowers has participated in educational seminars at Morehouse College Leadership Center in Atlanta, Georgia and Jerusalem University in Israel.

Rev. Flowers is co-founder of anSpire Ministries whose mission is to educate, equip and empower minds that propel people to greatness. She is also a member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. and a member of GDA BETA RHO, National Honor Society of Students of Hebrew Language. She is also author of "Anointed Moments" meditational book, "Dry Bones", a contemporary preaching/singing rendition of the valley of Dry Bones, and contributing author of "Talitha Cumi: Daughters Arise". She is an adjunct professor for Ashland Theological Seminary and The Heritage Center for Religious Studies. She is also an ordained  minister and her passion is preaching and teaching the word of GOD.

She has received many honors and awards, such as the "Young, Gifted and Black" award, the "Spirit of Detroit" award and has been recognized by the "Women's Informal Network" as one of the "Most Influential African American Women in Metropolitan Detroit." She is the wife of Orlando Flowers and the proud mother of James Ronald and Quency Christine. Her favorite scripture is Philippians 4:13, "I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me." Chaplain Portia Lockett

Chaplain Lockett, licensed and ordained, is the Spiritual Care Advisor for the DMC's and Karmanos Cancer Institute. She provides spiritual and emotional support to the staff, patients and their families. But, her work goes beyond the walls of the hospital. She also works with the Detroit Police Department, the International Fellowship of Chaplains, various shelters, numerous interfaith groups, and mentor groups for the youth. Chaplain Lockett is also a missionary and often travels abroad to other countries to give support when needed. Her most recent trip was to Kendall, Jamaica.

Chaplain Lockett was featured in the National Geographic's World Apart program that gave 13 American families the experience of residing in 13 different Third World countries. Lockett's family was sent to Peru where they lived with a Native Inca family in the Indies. She has been featured on CNN, ABC, NBC, CBS, The Bobby Jones Show, The Word Network, the Detroit News and many other publications.

Chaplain Lockett has never met a stranger. She has a passion for working with people and helping them reach their full potential. It is often said that if you spend just a few moments in her presence, you will be inspired. In her spare time, Chaplain Lockett enjoys writing lyrics, exercising, praise dancing, jazz concerts, traveling, resale shopping and spending quality time with family and friends. Her most recent assignment is designing Christian t-shirts to minister to God's children beyond the walls of the church.
